VOICE CHOICES ARCHIVES

OFF THE CHAIN

You may have noticed the Joyce’s name on large-scale dance productions at the uptown auditorium formerly known as the New York State Theater. But in an interesting reversal, the mid-size Chelsea house also mounts occasional shows in the home of its smaller neighbor down the block; in this week’s “Joyce Unleashed,” four choreographers with ties to Israel reprise acclaimed work, beginning tonight with just one performance of Netta Yerushalmy’s 50-minute Helga and the Three Sailors, called a “perfect dance” last fall by the New Yorker’s Andrew Boynton. Sharing this bill is the satirical 2013 We Love Arabs by Hillel Kogan, who made the piece with Arab dancer Adi Boutros. This weekend Yossi Berg and Oded Graf bring us their startling 2005 Heroes, set to music by David Bowie.
