Climate change has gotten so extreme that some Australian winemakers apply sunblock to their grapes to protect the vines from unprecedented heat (this is relevant, we promise). Artists in New York were also directly affected by climate change, when Sandy wiped out many galleries and artists’ studios. The intrepid team at Art Hack Day — “an internet-based nonprofit dedicated to hackers whose medium is art and artists whose medium is tech” — tackles the subject of environmental crisis and how it is approaching us faster than anybody expected. Sixty artistic hackers and technology-based artists gather at Pioneer Works in Red Hook, granted 48 hours to create an interactive exhibit and party, open to the public for one night only: tonight. The event usually attracts up to 1,000 attendees, and past projects have included GIF-generating photo booths and graffiti made of moss.
