2014 could be deemed Year of the Knish. The past 12 months have seen a resurgence of love for Jewish cuisine, with the much-hyped opening of spots like Russ & Daughters Café and Black Seed Bagels, which serve up high-quality bagels, smoked fish, and other deli delicacies. Cap it all off tonight with the launch party for Aaron Rezny and Jordan Schaps’s Eating Delancey: A Celebration of Jewish Food. The book of photography celebrates the Jewish immigrant communities who helped to shape the Lower East Side with their culinary contributions, and you’ll salivate over the shots of dill pickles, ruby-red borscht, and luscious slices of lox. The pictures are accompanied by nostalgic essays from Jewish luminaries like Bette Midler and Jerry Seinfeld; the late Joan Rivers penned the intro. The festivities this evening include a performance by Grammy-winning fiddler Lisa Gutkin, who plays with renowned klezmer band the Klezmatics.
