Armory Show and New Brunches on this Weekend’s To-Do List


Need a reprieve from an intense week? Or maybe you just need to get out more? This weekend’s line-up includes plenty of art, music, endless drinks, and food, of course, too.

Chez Jef, 241 Bowery

Mathieu Palombino may not have a full time replacement for his Bowery Diner space yet, but that isn’t stopping him from getting good use out of it. His French bistro pop-up opened this week and is cooking up steak frites, moules mariniere, and even a three-course $35 prix fixe. There’s also plenty of French red and white wine along with cocktails and beer. Reservations can be made by clicking on the Bowery Diner’s old website.

Armory Show, Pier 94 – 711 Twelfth Avenue, Friday through Sunday, 11 a.m.

The annual Armory Show is adding a culinary twist to this year’s showcases. Hôtel Americano, whose restaurant specializes in French-Latin cuisine, will have a pop-up restaurant and bar set up in the gallery’s VIP lounge area; enjoy mushroom tacos and salmon a la plancha before carrying home a painting or two. New Brunches, multiple locations, Saturday and Sunday

To remind everyone it really is okay to order bottomless brunch, The Windsor is debuting an $18 bottomless special at its Gramercy Park location on Sunday. The deal is valid with the purchase of an entree, and the kitchen serves everything from egg sandwiches to tuna steak BLT’s. Elsewhere, Pergola’s (36 West 28 Street; 212-679-4842) in Flatiron is unveiling its new Arabic breakfast to share for $35. The meal includes hummus, baklava, babaganoush, and falafels. Or order from an a la carte menu drawing dishes from various Mediterranean countries.

Music Night by Vinegar Hill House, Hillside, 70 Hudson Avenue, Brooklyn, Saturday, 7 p.m.

Music with dinner doesn’t have to mean ear blasting techno. Roman cellist and current member of the London Chamber Orchestra Mihai Marica will play for the crowd as Hillside chef Mike Poiarkoff prepares a seasonal menu of bites. Tickets are $60 and can be purchased on the Vinegar Hill House website.
