Watch out for the NYDP this Saturday—the New York Dance Police. During the seventh annual Dance Parade, these fun-loving “cops” will hand out tickets to those who aren’t dancing along the parade’s 20-block route. The parade celebrates the history and variety of dance, with dancers sashaying their way from Broadway and 21st Street to Tompkins Square Park, beginning with the oldest traditions and ending with modern dance. More than 75 genres are represented, including square dancing, hip-hop, and tango. Once the parade reaches the park, join the DanceFest, where everyone can participate in lessons and social dancing. Additional performances occur on stages throughout the park for those who just can’t get enough. (Last year, around 8,500 people flooded the park.)
