‘Alternative Guitar Festival’

In a Twitter world built on pith, a five-artist one-night fest makes sense. Joel Harrison curated this leftie-prog affair to propose an aesthetic slant while keeping the voices varied. Each of the participants makes room for dissonance, appreciates a strong attack, and realizes the power of nuance. Elliott Sharp nods to Ligeti and Riley in a string trio; Brandon Seabrook takes bass ‘n’ drums through frenzied paces; Andrew McKenna Lee bows to Hendrix avec electronics; Wolfgang Muthspiel goes it alone. As for the boss, he’s looking over his shoulder to a confluence of the Dead, Morton Feldman, and CSNY with a new outfit deemed 1970, centering on one of his key formative years.
