Josh Tillman is revitalizing SoCal rock. His Knitting Factory gig earlier this year was a provocative tour de force, with the former Fleet Foxes drummer obnoxiously mocking his audience’s phone addiction in-between gimlet-eyed glimpses of a small, precious slice of contemporary Los Angeles. The harmonies and arrangements are vintage Laurel Canyon, though, and Tillman’s voice flutters seductively just this side of tragicomedy.
