Under the Toque: Bagel and Lox Creations, Art Installations


Mario Batali and artist Jim Dine teamed up to make a super fancy, limited-edition cookbook up for auction on eBay with a minimum bid of $1,200 a copy. Proceeds from the sale will go to the Lunchbox Fund. [Eater]

For the annual conference of the International Academy of Culinary Professionals, chefs from Back Forty West, Kutsher’s Tribeca, and Zuckers riffed on the classic bagel and lox dish. Check out the pictures of what they came up with at Food Republic.

Other NYC chefs, like Sara Jenkins, Mark Ladner, Anita Lo, and Marco Canora, are preparing for a restaurant pop-up and art installation called Proyecto Paladar. For the project, the chefs will go to a yet-to-be-determined city where each of them will team up with a local chef to cook six one-hour meals for 12 diners. Then the entire project will be turned into a bilingual cookbook filled with recipes from the chefs, and photos and drawings made by the diners. Sounds ambitious. [Eater NY]
