White Denim+Mazes

Without extensive footnotes, even a fan would have a hard time following the output of a band that self-releases their albums, has gig-only CDs, and then reissues and re-records their catalog. But in the case of White Denim, it might be worth it to track down their output, because this Austin quartet makes unique music–part post-punk-revival, part indie-rock, part emo, part you-name-it. Like most angry young bands, their sound’s lost some edge as time goes on, but in a live setting, they have enough energy to make you forget that. Manchester ensemble Mazes is much more pop-happy, which should make an interesting contrast.
