SWOON SONG

by

The pride of a hometown indie scene that rarely looks down on commercial success, L.A.’s Silversun Pickups haven’t allowed their warm reception at modern-rock radio to curtail their fondness for the epic onstage jam; last time I saw ’em, they actually waited till “Panic Switch”—the fuzz-soaked semi-hit from last year’s Swoon—to unfurl their neo-shoegaze freak flag. Against Me!, from Florida, make for an unlikely opening act: Even with Butch Vig’s gleaming post–Green Day production, their new White Crosses kind of stands in moral opposition to Silversun’s sound-hound excess. Still, cool bill—come early, stay late. With the Henry Clay People.
