Binghamton Update: Three Suspects Reported, 2 in Custody, 1 at Large UPDATE 2: Shooter Dead

by

What was reported as a single-shooter incident at the American Civic Association in Binghamton is now portrayed as a situation with three suspects — two of whom have been apprehended. Witnesses tell MSNBC the two arrested men appear to be Asian and around 5-foot-9, as the shooter had been described. No details on the third man, who is at large with police and FBI agent going after him. Another witness tells them that “8 to 10” of the hostages were “executed with head shots,” and others with “gut shots”; still no official confirmation, nor reports on motive. The suspects used a car to block the back door of the building, somehow, to discourage escape.

Update 2:50 p.m.: The shooter is reportedly dead on the scene, an apparent suicide. The 13 dead are confirmed. The other arrests are at this time unexplained.

Update 3:40 p.m.: Police reveal the shooter was a 42-year-old upstate man named Jiverly Voong. 4:15 p.m.: He was living in Johnson City, New York, and was said to be using handguns, not a rifle as previously reported.

Update 5:15 p.m.: Death toll now at 14. See update here.
