PRETTY WOMEN

by

Probably best known for the washed-out portraits of celebrities like Meg White and Winona Ryder in his ads for Marc Jacobs, the fashion photographer Juergen Teller was recently commissioned to turn his lens on the Ukraine for the International Venice Biennale 2007—and what he found wasn’t all pierogies and painted Easter eggs. Now being shown in America for the first time, Teller’s photos aim to capture the newly capitalist Kiev via scantily clad local models and ordinary people striking absurd poses around the city—like, you know, a naked woman in the forest with a bag over her head. For the celebrity-obsessed art lover, Teller has also included his recent portraits of Harmony Korine, Victoria Beckham, Gisele Bündchen, and others.
